Scots sex abuse victim terrified by attacker's claimed link to terror group welcomes his sentence

A child sex abuse victim terrified into silence after her attacker claimed links to a banned terror group has welcomed his jail term.

Harry Canning, 80, was handed a nine-year prison sentence for sex attacks on two schoolgirls. The court heard he would “probably die in jail” after Judge Lord Weir told him he had subjected two “vulnerable young girls” to “a deplorable course of sexual abuse”.

Victim Ikeyra Kay had revealed Canning had bragged about links to the Ulster Volunteer Force – and had a shrine at home to the terror group.She contacted police after he was jailed for three years in 2019 for other sex offences against young girls.Last night Ikeyra, 22, said she hoped Canning would die behind bars.
