Scots mum jets off to Bali alone to teach kids 'importance of self care'

A Scots mum is embarking on 'the biggest act of self-care in her life' by jetting off on a solo trip to Bali - in a bid to show her kids that it's okay to take time for yourself.

Jill Ritchie, from Edinburgh, is leaving her sons, Jude, seven, and Eden, 11, at home with her partner Daryl while she takes the holiday of a lifetime, which she hopes will help her navigate her way through grief.

The 42-year-old decided to book the three-week trip to Indonesia within a month of losing her own mum, Fiona, to breast, lung, bone and brain cancer at the age of 69.

Jill, a life coach and podcaster, grew up in a single parent household and insists Fiona, who battled cancer for 19 years, inspired her to live her life to the full.And now she wants to set an example to her own children through her trip to Bali, and teach them that it is not selfish to take time to look after yourself.Jill told the Record: "My mum was a single parent who brought my sister and I up on her own.
