A brave Scots mum diagnosed with terminal cancer has turned down chemotherapy treatment to spend her final weeks with her children.Nichola Codona, from Motherwell, made a GP appointment after she began to suffer from sickness and rapid weight loss in October, 2022.

The mum-of-two thought she had indigestion and acid reflux but was urged to go back to the doctors on January 17 of this year after her niece noticed her eyes had turned yellow. The 36-year-old got an out-of-hours NHS appointment and was immediately referred to University Hospital Wishaw.

Nichola was kept overnight so medics could run blood tests and scan Nichola's abdomen - which found large masses. The following day she was given the devastating news she had bowel cancer which had already spread to her liver.Speaking to the Record, she said: "I started having sickness and rapid weight loss and told my GP.

A few months later my niece noticed that I had jaundice in my eyes and she asked me to go to the doctor, so I made an appointment just to put her mind at ease."I was seen out-of-hours and sent straight to Wishaw General, where they carried out scans.
