Covid victim has been refused disability benefits despite being left unable to work and taking 10 types of medication for the last 16 months.

Shereen Smith was a wedding singer and had also been in the process of setting up her own cake-making company when she was struck down by the virus in March last year.

The 39-year-old, from Glasgow, has told how her life has been ripped apart since then by an illness for which victims are being “dismissed, disregarded, mocked and patronised”.

She said: “For me, it attacked my lungs the worst, I think, because I have had respiratory problems in the past.“I had days when I struggled so hard to breathe, it felt like I was suffocating.
