Police are probing a break-in in Linlithgow in which a thief stole over £1,000 of jewellery and other valuables, leaving the residents "devastated".

The lowlife struck in the town's Avontoun Park sometime between 9am and 11am on Monday January 17. After breaking into the apartment, they picked up two diamond rings and a ruby ring, as well as two wallets and other jewellery.Officers say the stolen items "equate to around a four-figure sum of money".

An investigation is under way today, with police making door-to-door enquiries and reviewing local CCTV footage in a bid to identify and catch the perpetrator.

In the meantime, West Lothian cops have issued a public appeal for information. Detective Constable Lynn Myles said: “Many of the stolen items of jewellery have great sentimental value to the owners and they are devastated at them being taken. "I would ask anyone who has any information on this crime to contact us."If anyone has any private CCTV or Ring [doorbell] footage, please check it as it could hold vital information and could lead us to identifying the suspects.“I would also urge people to be aware of anyone selling items of jewellery - it could be stolen."If you have any information, please get in touch with us.
