Scots dementia patients get visit from alpacas at care home

Dementia patients at a care home enjoyed a festive visit from an alpaca. One-year-old Annie went for a trek around Parklands Care Home in Alloa, Clackmannshire.

The 5ft tall alpaca proved a hit with OAPs who live at the 60-bed facility which includes specialist dementia care.It met some residents in the lounge and others at their bedroom doors.Animal-assisted therapy has been shown to be very beneficial in elderly care and can reduce stress and anxiety, and improve motor skills and self-esteem.Annie was brought to the home by The Alpaca ­Trekking Centre in Stirling.Angela Martin, manager of Parklands, said: “We were all overjoyed to meet Annie.” Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter
