Scots dad has told of the dramatic moment the ceiling of his family home collapsed sending massive chunks of rubble onto the floor.

The father-of-two was left badly shaken after the incident at the rented flat on Dean Street in Edinburgh on Saturday evening.

The 36-year-old told Edinburgh Live that he believes his two children - aged eight and five - would have died if they had been struck by the rubble.

Thankfully, the duo were not at home at the time but face living in a property which now has a gaping hole in the kitchen roof.The collapse is understood to have been caused by a washing machine flood in the flat upstairs.The dad, who asked not to be named, said: “The whole ceiling just collapsed.
