Rutherglen Glencairn boss Willie Harvey says his side stepped up and proved how good they are by beating a talented Renfrew side 3-1 in the West of Scotland Cup second round.A Ryan McManus double inside 22 minutes was added to by a Scott Schoneville strike just before the interval.Former goalkeeper Harvey says conceding a stoppage-time counter to Dominic Lavelle angered Glencairn, which he was pleased to see, and hailed his side as “outstanding” over the piece.He said: “The surface was good for us, I had a full complement of squad to pick from and everybody that came back from injury had training sessions under their belt, so basically there was no room for excuses on Saturday.“I’m glad to say the boys stepped up to it and proved they can do what I know they can do.“I thought on Saturday they were absolutely outstanding against a very good Renfrew team.“It was credit to Renfrew – they stuck to their game-task and played some really good football, which made for a good game.“Renfrew scored in the 91st minute and that was the biggest disappointment of the whole day, that we lost a goal.“It showed on the boys’ faces and I was a goalkeeper, so the one thing you hated was losing a clean sheet.“Matty [McGinley, goalkeeper] was raging, the players were angry at themselves for losing a goal, and that’s good to see, that they don’t want to even lose a goal.“You can say it’s the 91st minute, it doesn’t matter, but it did matter to them, and that is a good thing.”Harvey was pleased with McManus’ contribution, but says strike partner Jack McIlveen was unlucky not to get on the score-sheet as well.He added: “The two strikers play great together.
