Rutherglen Glencairn fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the West of Scotland Football League fixtures this week, but the club have their first competitive fixture in the diary for the 2022/23 campaign. The draw for the opening rounds of the South Challenge Cup was made on Sunday with Willie Harvey’s side handed a familiar opponent.Glens face a tie at home with old foes Finnart on August 20, and the winner of that clash will be playing either Benburb or Dalry Thistle in the second round.Reacting to the draw, Harvey said: “It’s crazy because last year or the year before we got Finnart and it just seems to be a reoccurrence.“No doubt they will be looking for a wee bit of revenge.“They won their league last year, so no doubt they will have strengthened a wee bit as well.”Ahead of the schedule for Glens’ First Division season being revealed on Friday, Harvey added: “The good thing about the West of Scotland League – and I’ve got to applaud them for that – is that they give you your ties and your league commitments well in advance, so you know from week to week where you are.“That was probably one of the disappointing things in the juniors – you’d find out during the week who you were playing at the weekend!“But in the West of Scotland League you’ve got your ties and fixtures set out probably for about three months in advance, which is always good.”The West of Scotland Football League campaign will get underway on Saturday, July 30.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
