Rutherglen Glencairn boss Willie Harvey has warned his side they can’t believe they are safe in the top flight after his return to the dugout was spoiled by a 3-0 defeat to Irvine Meadow.Sam McCloy put Irvine ahead after five minutes before Glens had penalty shouts waved away prior to half-time.But Tommy Lone’s red card five minutes before the break made it an uphill task for Harvey’s men in the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division clash.Meadow goals from Graham Boyd and Marc McLennan kept the three points in Ayrshire and put Rutherglen down to eighth in the table.Harvey says the players have been shown the fine margins at Premier Division level with their defeat and hopes it can act as a warning sign for his men.The Glens gaffer – who was back in the dugout for the first time this season after a battle with Covid – said: “The players have been told that they can’t take their eye off it because of where we are sitting in the league.“You are only two or three defeats away from being in the relegation zone.

You have to keep fighting away but it’s a disappointing defeat.“I would be more disappointed if I thought we were poor. I thought in the first half we played really well and we controlled parts of the game.

We threatened every time we went up the park.“It was good to be back in the dugout but a big dampener was put on it with the result.

It’s a game we could have won and that is the disappointing thing about it.“We lost our goal after about five minutes. The player on the front post thought it was going by and stood out the way.
