Twitter message, taken by many as being racist towards Valerie Jarrett, a former adviser to President Barack Obama. The actress posted several racist conspiracy theories, referring to Jarrett as the offspring of Planet of the Apes.
Dozens of celebrities spoke out against Barr's offensive comments at the time, including Sara Gilbert, who played Barr's daughter in the original series and the 2018 reboot.
She wrote on Twitter at the time: "Roseanne's recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. "I am disappointed in her actions, to say the least. Gilbert later led Roseanne spinoff, The Conners, focusing on the titular family as a whole without Barr's involvement. Barr claimed: "It was her tweet that cancelled the show.
