More than £200 million of funding is expected to come to the Scottish Government from the UK Treasury to offset the huge rise in energy bills.Tory Chancellor Rishi Sunak is due to come before the Commons with an emergency package of funding to offset the 54 per cent rise in the price cap coming in April.Sunak is to offer council tax payers in England a rebate funded by government grants. But as the Chancellor has no oversight of local government funding in Scotland a lump sum, based on the Barnett Formula, will be added to the Scottish government block grant. It will then be left to the SNP government in Edinburgh to decide how to use the funding. The price cap rise announced by Ofgem, the energy regulator, will mean that a typical household bill will rise from £1,277 to £1,971 a year, or just under £700, across the UKOther measures expected to be announced by the chancellor include a huge package of billions of pounds of state-backed loans to energy companies which will then pass the money onto households in the form of £200 discounts on their energy bills.Despite the measures most people will see a huge rise in their energy bills in April with a further rise expected in October. This is a breaking news story - we’ll bring you the very latest updates, pictures and video as it happens.Follow the politics team on Twitter @Record_Politics and the official Daily Record account @Daily_Record - real news in real time. We’re also on Facebook - your must-see news, features, videos and pictures throughout the day from the Daily Record, Sunday Mail and Record OnlineGet all the big headlines, pictures, analysis, opinion and video on the stories that matter to you To sign up to the Daily Record Politics newsletter, click here.
