Rishi Sunak dodged questions on independence and Prince Harry’s controversial book on his first trip to Scotland as Prime Minister. The Prime Minister declined to address head on the First Minister's call to make the next general election about independence.Sunak, who has been Tory PM since November, has tried to reset the Government’s poor relationship with Nicola Sturgeon’s administration since his predecessor Liz Truss said the FM should be ignored. His first trip to Scotland included dinner with Sturgeon in Inverness on Thursday, where she pulled him up over anti-trade union legislation, and a visit to Cromarty Port Authority to announce two new green freeports.Although Sunak said he wanted a positive relationship with the Scottish Government, the brief trip became overshadowed by bitter political rows. His Government has refused to agree to indyref2 and Sturgeon’s ‘plan B’ is to make the general election a ‘de facto’ referendum.Speaking to the press, Sunak said: “I think people vote for all sorts of things in general elections, but what I'm focused on doing is delivering on people's priorities.“It's very clear that right now across the United Kingdom, devolved and UK governments are grappling with some of the challenges in the NHS, we're grappling with the impact of the war in Ukraine, Russia's aggression, the impact that's had on energy supplies and indeed in inflation more generally in the cost of living which is really making life difficult for many families.“Those are the challenges that we really need to tackle.

And today's announcement is a good example of us working constructively with the Scottish Government to try and make a difference on some of those things.
