Richard Leonard has claimed his party’s “pro choice” position on indyref2 at the general election did not work. In an interview with the New Statesman, he said his party had fared badly because of a lack of clarity and added that people who wanted another referendum would vote SNP.The left winger also appeared to poke fun at Keir Starmer by saying the UK Labour leader would be unlikely to come to Scotland to talk about patriotism, which has been a key theme of his leadership.Labour’s policy on indyref2 was thrown into turmoil last year when the then shadow chancellor John McDonnell said a Labour Government would not block another vote.Confusion on what the policy meant dogged the party’s general election campaign and infuriated.
