However people must still do everything they can to minimise the risk from the virus, Manchester Council bosses say. Residents around the Didsbury Basin have been warned they may need to leave their properties as the River Mersey continues to rise.

They have been told to stay put for now as they will be instructed by the emergency services if they need to go.A rest centre will be made available for those who are evacuated, the council said.Anyone who is self-isolating due to Government guidance around Covid-19, or anyone who is extremely clinically vulnerable will be contacted.
