Rebel Princess Margaret would ‘scream and bicker’ but the Queen loved her, says expert

This year will be an emotional one for the Queen, who celebrates 70 years on the throne this month. Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations have been planned, but first she must navigate the loss of many beloved family members including her younger sister Princess Margaret.

On February 9 2002, Margaret passed away following a stroke aged 71. According to royal expert Jennie Bond, the outspoken Princess had a strong and loyal bond with the Queen, despite her rebellious streak.

Jennie told OK!: “Margaret was a rebel princess and quite a handful for the Queen to deal with, but the love underpinned everything.” The sisters enjoyed a close relationship during their childhood, particularly in the war years. “During the war the sisters were very isolated and had to make their own amusements like putting on pantomimes.

It threw them together and created an incredibly strong bond,” said Jennie. But after the abdication, the Queen and Princess Margaret were thrust into a new life.
