Wagatha Christie libel trial, according to her barrister today. Hugh Tomlinson QC made the claim as the trial came to a close this afternoon - with a judgement now expected within weeks.
The trial at the Royal Courts of Justice in London heard closing arguments from both sides in the case. Earlier on, Coleen Rooney’s legal team had argued Mrs Vardy had been an ‘unreliable witness’.
However, her team denied this, claiming that the case had been “very upsetting” for her. They insisted that Rebekah, wife of Leicester striker Jamie Vardy, had been truthful throughout the trial and did not leak private Instagram posts of Mrs Rooney’s to the press. As a result, they told the court, Mrs Vardy was entitled to “substantial damages”. The incident came to prominence after a viral social media post in October 2019 saw Mrs Rooney say she had carried out a “sting operation”, accusing Mrs Vardy of leaking “false stories” about her private life to the Press.
