A wildlife charity has warned that one of Scotland's most majestic birds is under threat. Ptarmigans (also known as Rock Ptarmigans) are native to Scotland and breed exclusively in the Scottish Highlands.Recognisable for their plumage, which is is a beautiful mixture of black, grey, white, and brown in summer turns a pristine white in autumn and winter, they live on mountains and Munroes.The RSPB has warned that more than a quarter of UK bird species are now seriously under threat and the charity in Scotland is particularly concerned about the Ptarmigan.RSPB Scotland recently confirmed that the numbers have been in sharp decline since the 60s with an overall decline of 81% since 1961.The species has now been moved from the green list to
