Varane, 28, was pictured arriving at the club's Ciudad Real Madrid training complex in Valdebebas, but did not stay to take part in any training sessions.
It is understood the French defender attended to take part in compulsory medical examinations following his participation in the European Championship earlier this summer.
United remain confident of completing a deal for Varane following the imminent Jadon Sancho transfer announcement and the defender expects to join United this summer.
