Raith Rovers star Kieran Ngwenya is facing a club vs country battle ahead of the Challenge Cup Final. Malawi want to call up the on-loan Aberdeen defender for a training camp and next month’s African Cup of Nations qualifier with Egypt.
The Football Association of Malawi have already indicated that they want the 20-year-old to travel for the game. The match is just two days before Raith Rovers are due to take on Hamilton Accies in the Challenge Cup final.Ngwenya was part of the Rovers team who came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 and then win on penalties in the semi-final at Dundee on Wednesday night.
The Glasgow-born youngster has already represented Malawi. It could be a major issue for Rovers boss Ian Murray. The Fife club are already struggling for numbers and would be reluctant to lose the defender at such a crucial stage in the season.
Malawi have a friendly against Saudi Arabia arranged before the home qualifier with Egypt on March 28th.Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond. You can also follow our dedicated Rangers and Celtic podcast pages and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
