Elizabeth II
Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926) is Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. Elizabeth was born in London, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and she was educated privately at home. Her father ascended the throne on the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII in 1936, from which time she was the heir presumptive. She began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In 1947, she married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, with whom she has four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

Queen Elizabeth II’s head groom has revealed that the late monarch’s beloved horse Emma had a “sixth sense” that she wouldn’t be riding her again.

Emma was ridden by the Queen for over two decades and is said to have been her favourite pony. With this in mind, Emma was standing waiting for Her Majesty yesterday, Monday 19 September, as she bid a final farewell to the Queen on her way to St George’s Chapel.

The Queen’s head groom Terry Pendry has since reflected on the monarch’s relationship with her horse and how Emma appeared to know that she wouldn’t be ridden by the royal again. “It was an honour and privilege to have Emma with me to say goodbye to Her Majesty for the last time,” he told Mail Online. “The Queen adored Emma and rode her for more than 20 years so it was only right she should have been there, and she behaved impeccably. “I think she probably had some sort of sixth sense that Her Majesty wouldn't be riding her anymore and she did her proud by standing there so respectfully.” Terry went on: “I've been riding with the Queen for years and the last time she was on Emma was back on July 18 - two days before she left for Balmoral. “It's a memory I shall never forget, and I tell you something, the Queen may have been frail as any 96-year-old would be, but she was still as sharp as anything, she was crystal clear.” For all of the latest updates, sign up for OK!'s Royal newsletter.Terry has previously discussed Her Majesty’s relationship with pony Emma and two years ago described the equine as “a wonderful servant to Her Majesty and is still going strong at the age of 24 as one of The Queen’s riding ponies”.
