Public 'kept in the dark' over school Covid cases says union, as it calls for greater transparency

Wigan Council has been publishing a weekly Covid surveillance tracker, featuring a list of the schools with positive cases. In the first half of the autumn term the number of schools affected by the virus reached more than 580.

Since the start of October half term, we have listed 185 schools where either pupils or staff have tested positive. But because of the difficulty accessing the information - and with some headteachers refusing to liaise with the M.E.N - the true figure is expected to be much higher.
