Professional boxers Abie Tweedlie and Piotr Gora are set to kickstart their careers in 2023, and are back training with Durie’s Boxing Gym in Rutherglen.Head coach Archie Durie had been in contact with both fighters – who are being coached by his son Jamie – and their manager Sam Kynoch, in a bid to get them back in shape and ready to compete again.Archie will be assisted in training Lesmahagow’s Tweedlie and Gora from Govan by his grandson Jamie, 22, who has applied for his British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) badge.Meanwhile, the boxing club received mixed results from matches at the end of November.Abe Renton from East Kilbride was up against Edinburgh fighter Conner MacLeod of McTaggart and Scott at Hearts’ Tynecastle Park in a 64kg bout, but after a close contest, MacLeod won a 3/2 split decision.Head coach Archie Durie was through at the youth and novice show at Barrhead with three young boxers, with a win and a defeat, while Castlemilk Jack McGonigle, 15, took part in an exhibition match.Castlemilk lad Lucas Ewan beat Keir Hardie Motherwell’s Connor Carroll in a 3/2 split decision in his fight.

But Joe McClure, 15, from Cambuslang, lost a 4/1 split against Nith Valley’s George McGeoch.McGonigle had gone to Barrhead intending to fight, but a 4kg weight deficit meant it was put through as a non-scoring exhibition.Head coach Archie Durie said: “It was a little bit of a mixed day there with the one winner Lucas Ewan, and our two others beat on split decisions.“It was good to get Jack McGonigle out to make his debut in a non-scoring bout with no winners declared, but good to get Jack in action.“It was also good, sending my grandson Jamie through to Edinburgh to coach, and he did a great job.
