Prison van staff told not to use PPE unless they can see obvious signs of infection

Prison custody workers are being ordered to scrimp on PPE even when prisoners claim to have coronivirus.Staff of Geo-Amey, which oversees 40 Scottish courts, have been told not to use PPE unless they can physically see obvious symptoms.The workers are forced to manhandle people between courts, hospitals and police stations including three designated stations for handling prisoners who have shown symptoms or have been self isolation.Staff have reported that they are armed only with gloves for protection as they cuff and move prisoners in and out of vans.Although Geo Amey did buy stocks of more advanced kit, this has been kept in reserve after Geo-Amey’s managing director David Jones wrote to staff two weeks ago to urge them NOT to use PPE,
