Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

Princess Anne makes history as first woman to 'stand guard' for Vigil of the Princes

King Charles III has taken his place by his mother Queen Elizabeth II's coffin at St Giles' Cathedral for the Vigil of the Princes.The new monarch, 73, has been joined by his siblings Princess Anne, 72, Prince Andrew, 62, and Prince Edward, 58, each positioning themselves in one corner of the casket to "stand guard".

Princess Anne has become the first woman to ever take part in the Vigil of the Princes ceremony, which has until now always been carried out by the male members of the Royal Family.

She was seen in uniform while keeping completely silent, much like her brothers, with her head bowed by her mother's coffin.

While Anne kept her eyes glued to the ground, her brother Andrew closed his eyes and kept his hands clasped together during the sombre 20-minutes they stood together.
