While meeting with volunteers and staff who helped out on the day of the Queen’s funeral, the Prince of Wales opened up a little about the grief he has felt following the death of his grandmother, Queen Eliabeth II.
Reflecting on his grief, Prince William, 40, said: “There are certain moments that catch you out. You are prepared for all, but certain moments catch you out.” The dad-of-three, also shared that he had gotten “choked up” over seeing all the various Paddington Bear themed tributes to Her Majesty, in reference to a sketch she filmed alongside the popular bear for her Platinum Jubilee.
Speaking about his emotions surrounding this, the Prince added: “It is the things you don't expect that get to you.” He later joked that there was a new competition between Paddington Bear and corgis over their links to the late queen, adding that “the corgis have been there longer".
These comments were made while the Prince and Princess of Wales took part in their first public engagement after the Queen had been laid to rest in St George’s Chapel, Windsor. The engagement is also one of their first since William became first in line to the throne and became known as the Prince of Wales, after the death of his grandmother and the accession of his father, Charles, to become the King.
