Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, has made a last-minute trip to the United Arab Emirates to represent the Queen, after the sad passing of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa.
President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of the country’s capital, Abu Dhabi, died aged 73 on May 13.
Prince William, 39, made an overnight trip to offer condolences to Sheikh Khalifa’s half-brother, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who is now in charge of state affairs, on behalf of the Queen and the royal family.
It is the first time that Prince William has offered condolences on a death of the head of a foreign state, on behalf of the Queen.
