Duke of Edinburgh is said to have been in high spirits in the days before his death - as he spent his final days with his beloved wife by his side.

Royal insiders have said that Prince Philip, who was frustrated by Covid restrictions limiting family and nursing visits, was still reading and writing letters and was in "good form." The Duke - who called The Queen, 'Lilibet' - regularly spoke to loved ones on the phone from Windsor Castle, as he was not a fan of Zoom.

And the 99-year-old, who had recently returned from a stint in hospital after being treated for a pre-existing heart condition and an infection, is said to have been "calmer and quieter" and confined to his room more than he had been before.
