Prince Harry once had to 'plead' with the Royal Family to delay announcing significant news. The world was officially informed of Queen Elizabeth II's passing at 6:30pm on September 8 2022, just before Prince Harry could reach Aberdeen and head to Balmoral.
Buckingham Palace had intended to issue a statement earlier, but Harry "begged" them to hold off as he wanted to be present, according to Omid Scobie, the author of Endgame.
Harry's plane was forced to circle the airport due to stormy weather. The extract from Endgame reads: "When Harry's plane finally touched tarmac twenty minutes later, he received a text from Meghan urging him to call ASAP followed by a breaking news alert via the BBC News app with the announcement of the Queen's death." The Palace agreed to wait, but eventually decided to announce the news without him.
A spokesperson for the King stated: "The public was only informed after every family member had been informed." A source said the King was "adamant" that all members of 'the Firm' had to be informed of the monarch's death before the palace broke the news, reports the Daily Record.
