Primark is known for its well loved Disney collection, however the has issued an urgent recall of its Winnie the Pooh themed plates after reports that it contains lead and formaldehyde. The wooden plates have been removed from shelves after they were found to release trace amounts of lead and formaldehyde at levels higher than the EU regulation permitted levels.
Primark said it could present a risk if ingested and warned parents not to let their children eat from the plate. The kids plate has been on sale since January 13 this year and the issue was highlighted by a French regulator.
According to the NHS, lead can cause abdominal pain and constipation, while children can experience developmental delays and learning difficulties.
Formaldehyde can cause nausea, headaches, dizziness and hormone issues. A Primark spokesman said: "We take the safety of our customers and the quality of our products very seriously, which is why we have removed this product from sale in all our stores and are conducting a recall." Customers should return it to a store - with or without a receipt - for a full refund.
