Bobbies on the beat in Trafford have been roundly praised by the public for their fast actions. The suspect, an adult man, is currently in custody.

He was found hiding behind a bus stop - and collared. Officers on the Trafford North division of Greater Manchester Police sprang into action after a 999 call reporting a robbery on Milton Road in Trafford, near Gorse Hill Park down the road from the Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground.

The call came in at 2.37. Police said that within 40 seconds of the report being communicated by radio to officers on the ground, the suspect was spotted.
