Police have said that they are looking into "an allegation of blackmail" and taking matters "very seriously" after reports claimed that Alison Hammond was forced to hand over thousands.It comes as West Midlands Police today confirmed that they were investigating an allegation of blackmail involving a woman in her 40s.Following previous reports that Alison was being blackmailed, co-starts of the presenter, 48, took to social media today to show their support for the mum-of-one, writes the Mirror.A spokesperson for West Midlands Police told the Mirror today: "We are investigating an allegation of blackmail of a woman in her 40s.

We take reports of this kind very seriously and our enquiries are progressing swiftly."It comes after an insider told The Sun that someone who Alison believed to be a friend allegedly said that he would 'tell lies' which would 'end her career' unless the presenter hands over thousandsThe presenter is said to have purchased a BMW car, worth an estimated £5000, for the man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.The source claimed that Alison said: "Out of the blue he said he could tell lies to make people think less of me, it was alarming."Alison has continued to appear on television during the alleged ordeal, and colleagues have since shared messages of support.
