The SNP/Green Government has been called on to use the Scottish Budget to give every adult a £50 voucher to boost ailing high streets.Scottish Labour believes the cash should be spent in ‘bricks and mortar’ retail outlets - ruling out online giants like Amazon.

High streets were already in decline before the pandemic, but covid has piled extra pressure on well-known brands. With Finance Secretary Kate Forbes set to unveil her draft Budget on Thursday, Labour are calling for a £600m economic stimulus package.

This includes £380m to fund 50% rates relief for retail, hospitality and leisure properties to help them cope with the pandemic.The £50 voucher scheme, designed to encourage in-person shopping, is estimated to cost £227m.Under the
