Phillip Schofield has officially quit This Morning, several names are floating about as contenders to replace him. With Holly Willoughby remaining at her post, some viewers believe that personalities such as Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond could join her in the ITV studio, with some even speculating that Piers Morgan could be considered.

In response that rumour, Piers, 58, has issued one of his typical responses, with the aim being – of course – to ruffle some feathers.

Sharing a photo of himself with Holly, 42, when they posed for photographers together at ITV Palooza in 2019, the TalkTV broadcaster expressed his gratitude for all of those who thought he could fill 61-year-old Phillip’s shoes. ‘Thanks to everyone suggesting I might replace Philip Schofield as Holly Willoughby’ Scotland-host at This Morning in a Lazarus-like comeback to ITV,’ he wrote on Instagram. ‘Unfortunately, there’s just one problem: I still don’t believe a single word Meghan Markle says!’Several social media users questioned why he felt the need to bring up Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex at all when talking about Phillip and Holly on This Morning.

Earlier this year, Piers claimed that he wanted to ‘move on’ from the continuous discourse he’s involved in regarding Prince Harry and Meghan, admitting that he wanted to interview the couple in a final showdown. ‘I’d be quite good in training Meghan and Harry to be proper people again,’ he told Spencer Matthews on his Big Fish podcast. ‘If you could swing it I’d love to do an interview with both of them actually.
