Phillip Schofield has revealed he’s stepped down from all ITV shows and hosting the British Soap Awards after admitting to having an affair with a “younger male colleague” on This Morning. The TV star has been dropped by his agents and issued an apology for the relationship, saying he is "deeply sorry" about the "consensual on-off relationship".

Phillip, 61, said how he had "not been truthful" about the relationship in "an effort to protect my ex-colleague".The TV presenter added that he will no longer appear on ITV after questions about his hosting duties on Dancing On Ice. "I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me," he said in a statement. "I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it. "To protect his privacy, I am not naming this individual and my deepest wish is that both he and his family can now move on with their lives free from further intrusion, and that this statement will enable them to do so." In a statement made to MailOnline, Phillip said that he met the man in question "when he was a teenager", and wanted help to get onto television.

Phillip then said: "It was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal.

It is now over." He also apologised to MailOnline for "lying" to them about the relationship when the publication published the story earlier this month, as he denied it at the time.
