Then, in the age of Pornhub, it exploded on the Internet. That’s when porn-on-the-computer innovation became the all-porn-all-the-time revolution. “Money Shot: The Pornhub Story,” a documentary that drops March 15 on Netflix, is not a movie about the cultural prominence or significance of porn in our time. Someone should really make that documentary. It’s a story that, like so much else about pornography, is totally out there yet hidden in the shadows. “Money Shot,” directed by Suzanne Hillinger and produced by Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, does touch on key aspects of how porn today is manufactured and consumed — notably how technology has helped to blur, if not obliterate, the distinction between the porn professional and the elevated “amateur.” But the movie explores this mostly in the service of telling the story of how Pornhub, the largest porn site in the world, became a lightning rod of controversy when it was accused of being a place that abetted sex trafficking and the sexual abuse of children.

The doc explores the allegations of non-consensual material and trafficking on the site, and Pornhub’s subsequent crackdown on its own content.

Netflix has announced a new Pornhub documentary, titled Money Shot: The Pornhub Story.Set for release on March 15, the upcoming documentary features interviews with performers, activists and past employees, offering a deep dive into the successes and scandals of the porn site.A press release for the 90-minute film reads: “Pornhub, the internet’s most famous adult entertainment platform, fundamentally changed how pornography is made and distributed.“This enabled erotic content creators to reach a massive audience while the company made billions of dollars – but it also became embroiled in allegations including non-consensual material and trafficking on the site.“As anti-trafficking organisations seek justice for victims, can the online giant protect those from whom they profit, or is this a new wave of censorship for adult performers making consensual porn?”Of the film, director and Producer Suzanne Hillinger said: “This documentary requires us to grapple with what sexuality and consent means when billion-dollar internet platforms thrive on user-generated content.“Who has, and who should have, the power in these environments? Our hope is that this film generates important conversations about sex and consent, both on the internet and out in the world.”The documentary feature is produced by Jigsaw Productions, with Nicki Carrico serving as producer.

Given that it lays out in unsparing terms the extent of a staggering American failure that ranks up there with 9/11 and Pearl Harbor, “Totally Under Control” is a surprisingly calm piece of work. A damning account of how the greatest technological, scientific, and military power on the planet laid down and allowed a pandemic to march right over it, the documentary is filled with eyewitnesses to the clown show who still don’t appear able to process what they saw.
