Legendary Wins Film Rights to Grady Hendrix Bestseller ‘How to Sell a Haunted House’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer Legendary Entertainment has won the movie rights to Grady Hendrix’s runaway bestseller “How to Sell a Haunted House.” The studio behind “Dune” took the acclaimed novel over several bids. The book received critical acclaim and an instant following thanks to its dynamic storytelling — pulling off genuine fright with its evil puppet antagonist, and a deeply emotional story about the horrors of family. New Zealand-based Māori filmmaker James Ashcroft is attached to direct the project. Ashcroft made his mark in the indie genre space with the bleak “Coming Home in the Dark,” which premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and was later acquired by Netflix. Hendrix will adapt his own novel for the screen.

Evil Dead Rise event to “get the fuck out”.The veteran actor, and undisputed star of the horror franchise, refused to be phased when one audience member acted up.Campbell told the unhappy member of the audience to leave the film’s premiere event after he acted up and caused a scene, according to Variety.The man is said to have been approached by venue staff after falling asleep with his legs propped up on a seat, before yelling “something unintelligible” at the staff.When the room went silent following his outburst, the man is said to have shouted: “This movie fucking sucks!” He then threw an empty bucket of popcorn into the air.The audience at the premiere reportedly erupted into a chorus of boos, and as the heckler stormed out of his balcony seat Bruce Campbell spoke up. “What are you doing here? Get the fuck out of here!” he told the man.

The man was approached by South by Southwest venue staff after falling asleep with his legs propped up and yelled something unintelligible in response. When the room went silent to hear him out, he shouted, “This movie fucking sucks!” and threw an empty bucket of popcorn into the air. The audience immediately erupted into a chorus of boos. As the heckler stormed out of his balcony seat, they quieted, offering scattered applause — until original “Evil Dead” star and current executive producer Bruce Campbell got involved.

Nicolas Cage’s ‘Renfield’ to World Premiere at Overlook Film Festival

Julia MacCary editor Nicolas Cage and Nicholas Hoult’s vampire horror-comedy “Renfield” will get its world premiere at the Overlook Film Festival on March 30. Hoult (“The Menu,” “About a Boy”) stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to Dracula, who is being played by Cage (“Face/Off,” “The Rock”). Chris McKay (“The Tomorrow War,” “The Lego Movie”) directed the film, and Ryan Ridley (“Rick and Morty,” “The Wastelander”) penned it. Additional cast members include Awkwafina, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Brandon Scott Jones and Ben Schwartz. Lee Cronin’s “Evil Dead Rise” will close out the festival on April 2. Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland star in the film about estranged sisters reuniting, only to have flesh-possessing demons force them into a battle to survive. Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campell produced the film.
