East Ayrshire councillor makes spending call after warning over incoming inflation 'shockwave'
East Ayrshire Council to consider 'making do' – in order to avoid financial pain ahead of anticipated inflation rises. The Kilmarnock North member made the suggestion at a meeting of the governance and scrutiny committee where head of finance Joe McLachlan outlined the council's approach to borrowing in the current climate.Mr McLachlan said that £60 million of council reserves had been used for projects where they would normally borrow money. He explained: "We are spending money on capital that you would traditionally go and borrow. But we are not doing that at the moment."We are using our own money, using our reserves to fund that expenditure.
