Diedre Johnson It’s a mashup that includes fantasy, science fiction, history, horror, and a love story — but there’s more.“‘Lovecraft Country’ is a [story] about a family,” says series star Jonathan Majors, “a Black family making their way through a world full of obstacles … and [answers] the question of what it means to be individuals, what it means to be alive, and what it means to move you and your people forward.”Set in the 1950s, the 10-episode series was created by writer-producer Misha Green, who adapted Matt Ruff’s novel of the same name. Majors portrays Atticus Freeman, a Korean war vet and bibliophile who returns to his hometown of Chicago after learning that his father Montrose (Michael Kenneth Williams) is missing.
