PDC Darts: Gerwyn Price scalp the biggest win of Ross Montgomery's career as he mounts stunning comeback in 'strange' win

Darts star Ross 'The Boss' Montgomery claimed the biggest win of his career last week after stunning world number one Gerwyn Price with an incredible comeback on the PDC Tour.The East Kilbride thrower looked down and out in the second round of the 'Players' Championship 23' event with 'The Iceman' holding a seemingly unassailable 5-1 lead in the best of 13 legs clash.But Montgomery, ranked 122 in the rankings, roared back to take the match 6-5 as the Welshman uncharacteristically crumbled.To put the result in greater context, Price has racked up £1.2m in prizemoney this season while Montgomery has just £9,000 to his name.The Boss, who went on to lose to Danny Baggish 6-5 in the last 32, is happy to take the scalp but admits it's a game he never should have won, and he feels for Price.

He told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "It's the biggest win of my career but I don't want to glorify it too much because, watching Gerwyn when he was playing, he was so keen to finish the game off he ended up trying too hard. "It was strange circumstances but I hit the doubles when I had to, so I'll take it and move on."He just kept missing everything.

I just tried to stand back, relax, get another leg, get another leg just to try and make it respectable."I just kept pegging him back and it seemed the harder Gerwyn tried, the more he was missing."The most nerve-wracking thing for me was at 5-5 and I had a 41 checkout."I just had to make sure I hit a big one and then got my shot at the double."I felt for Gerwyn because I've been in that position myself many times over the years, where you can't finish a game off."I was playing okay, but Gerwyn was tremendous for those first six legs."Then all of a sudden the wheels fell off for him."Gerwyn was a
