For the first time in five years, the price of getting a new passport will rise for adult and child applications. From February 2, passport applications will be more expensive as the fees will rise from £75.50 to £82.50 for adults and £49 to £53.50 for children.

Postal applications will also rise from £85 to £93 for adults and £58.50 to £64 for children. The new rules have been introduced by the Home Office, despite the government making no profit from passport applications.

If you need a new passport for any holidays this year, it's recommended you get your application off before the rules change and you're forced to pay more.

According to the government website, priority service fees are also being aligned so that all customers will pay the same. For overseas customers, the price fee for a standard UK passport application online will rise from £86.00 to £94.00 for adults and £56 to £61.00 for children.
