Pair seen digging up historical site after searching with metal detectors

A man and woman seen illegally digging at a historical site in Aberdeenshire are wanted for questioning by police. The incident happened at the Historic Environment Scotland site at Findlater Castle, Sandend - just outside of Banff.

Around 12.30pm on Monday, June 20, a male and a female were seen using a metal detector and then digging in an area that has been designated as protected by Historic Environment Scotland.

READ MORE: Tourists 'forced to sleep in cars' and 'struggled to get food' after Scots ferry breakdownThe male and female are described as in their late thirties or early forties.The male was wearing a white shirt with jeans and has a balding hair line, while the female had shoulder length blonde hair and was wearing jeans and a pink hoodie.PC Hussain, the enquiry officer, said: "I would like to remind members of the public that by all means enjoy the fantastic and varied tourist attractions that Scotland has to offer, but I would say it is illegal to use metal detectors at Scheduled monuments and if convicted you could be fined up to £1000."
