Death, taxes and Northern cancelling trains on a Sunday... The under-fire operator has issued yet another travel warning for passengers travelling tomorrow, with cancellations on several routes due to staff shortages.

Last month Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham described Northern as a part-time rail service' due to the high numbers of cancellations on its trains.

And tomorrow Northern has warned passengers there will be replacement bus services on a number of routes across the North West, including Manchester Victoria to Southport, Stockport to Stoke-on-Trent and Wigan to Liverpool, and said 'journeys will be longer and less frequent'. The underlying reason is train crew availability, in particular on Sundays which is contractually outside of the working week. "We encourage everyone to plan ahead and check journeys before travelling for the latest information and train times." Northern services have consistently been disrupted on Sundays as the day falls outside of contracted working hours.
