Nicola Sturgeon will lay out her plans to hold a second referendum on Scottish independence later today. The First Minister is set to address MSPs at Holyrood about how she will go about holding another vote in October 2023.

It comes after the SNP leader and co-leader of the Scottish Greens Patrick Harvie launched the first in a series of papers earlier this month which kick-started the campaign.

Sturgeon's announcement has been slammed by opposition parties with Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar urging the FM to get on with fixing the problems facing the country.He said: "The SNP are trying to drag Scotland back to the politics of the past instead of dealing with the challenges of the present. "It is no surprise that Nicola Sturgeon is ramping up her efforts to sow division and strife when we see the chaos in her party and the failures of her government."
