Bestselling author Nicholas Evans has died at the age of 72. The Horse Whisperer novelist's literary agency said the writer, screenwriter and journalist passed away on Tuesday, August 9 following a heart attack.
A statement said: “United Agents are very sad to announce the sudden death of the celebrated best-selling author Nicholas Evans who died suddenly on Tuesday … following a heart attack, aged 72.”Born in 1950 in Worcestershire, Evans was educated at Bromsgrove School before reading law at Oxford, which he graduated from with a first-class degree.
He worked as a journalist on the Evening Chronicle in Newcastle upon Tyne before moving into broadcasting media in the 1970s.
He then worked on ITV's Weekend World and The South Bank Show before becoming an author.Nicholas was struggling with £65,000 of debt when Robert Redford bought the film rights for his half-written debut novel for an unprecedented £3million in 1995.The movie of The Horse Whisperer, starring Redford, Kristin Scott Thomas and a 13-year-old Scarlett Johansson, was released in 1998.It earned a Golden Globe nomination for best drama and a best director nomination for Redford.Nicholas's book also became a staggering success.
