New supermarket plan for Maybole causes school head teacher concern

Maybole have sparked an objection from a head teacher.A planning application has been lodged to erect a shop and diner at the Drummuran Garage site on Kirkoswald Road in the town.

The existing building on the plot would be demolished.It is proposed that the Co-op would move from its existing premises in Main Street.

The relocation would more than double its overall size. A planning document lodged with South Ayrshire Council said aisles in the current store are too narrow and there isn’t enough space – causing congestion.But Carrick Academy head teacher Shona Stevens has raised potential problems with traffic near the school.An objection from the school boss said: “I would like my concern to be noted to the application for a shop and cafe.
