New Scottish independence poll shows 55% of Scots back staying in Union

A new Scottish independence poll has shown that support for staying in the UK has remained the same since the 2014 referendum.

YouGov's new survey on the day Nicola Sturgeon became Scotland's longest serving First Minister shows that when "don't knows" are excluded 55 per cent of Scots back staying in the union.

The polling firm asked 1,115 adults across Scotland between May 18 and 23 about their views on the constitution. The poll, for The Times, revealed that 38 per cent of Scots would vote 'Yes' in any future vote on independence - a fall of two percentage points on November 2021.

Of the people polled 46 per cent were in favour of a 'No' vote, while 11 per cent were undecided when asked.Sturgeon has overtaken her predecessor Alex Salmond to be Scotland's longest serving First Minster.She has been in post for seven years, six months and five days.
