Musicians band together to create special 'Ayrshire Folk For Ukraine' fundraiser

Folk singers and musicians from Ayrshire are banding together for a charity event next month to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees.

Ayrshire Folk For Ukraine will be staged at the Gaiety Theatre in Ayr and musicians from the town, Irvine and further afield are preparing to take part.

Organisers have finalised the programme and already 30 stage professionals and club floor singers have signed up for the three-and-a-half hour music fundraiser.It is hoped the event will be a sell-out.A spokesperson for the organisers said: “Ayr Phoenix Folk Club joins ranks with the Gaiety Theatre for a Ukraine refugee support funding concert, with voluntary professional and floor singer stage performers from folk clubs across Ayrshire.“Ayrshire Folk For Ukraine will be a gala folk music concert curated to make a significant much-needed financial donation to the terrible current Ukraine humanitarian cause.”The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now.Get all the local news in your area – plus features, football news and the latest on the coronavirus crisis – at your fingertips 24/7.The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories while you can customise your page with the sections that matter to you.The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now on iOS and Android.The evening’s programme is fronted up by main guests Alastair McDonald, Fraser and Ian Bruce and Gavin Patterson, supported by Dalrymple Ladies Ukulele Orchestra and Folk Club Floor Singers – with a special appearance by Ukrainian musician Vlada Kupriyanova.Irvine Folk Club has already arranged a bus with 46 of their local audience set to attend.
