Presents, cake, there's all the usual ways of celebrating a birthday. But 22-year-old Oliver Ryan took his mum's special day to the extreme by plastering her face on one of Europe's biggest billboards.

He chose a grand gesture to show his gratitude to Theresa, 56, by placing her image on a massive 17.6m x 17.4m billboard at Victoria Warehouse, Manchester.

Hoping to catch her completely by surprise, Oliver lured her under the guise of a lunch invitation nearby before taking her to see the huge screen change to a image selected from her Instagram. Her initial thoughts of a casual meal out took a turn as she said: "He never treats me so when he was taking me to Nando's I thought there must be something else." Joking about the simplicity of the supposed lunch venue, she added: "I thought I came all this way for a Nando's - I'm glad it was a surprise." Theresa went on to describe her shock and delight: "I was gobsmacked, and it was an absolute dream." Oliver, who manages social media for a living, had selected a photo from his mum's Instagram account to be broadcasted onto the e-billboard at precisely 1 pm on the previous day.

He shared: "They said it never had been done before and would allow me to my mum on the billboard,". As they ambled to lunch at 1 pm, the screen changed, showcasing Theresa's smiling visage for a full half-hour.
