Czech director Petr Jákl’s third film is by far his most ambitious yet.It tells the story of fifteenth century warlord Jan Zizka (Ben Foster), who defeated armies of the Teutonic Order and the Holy Roman Empire.

The consequences of battle are clear to see as collateral damage deaths are in plentiful supply.It’s a realistic portrayal of the damage this type of conflict would cause to the body, although eventually you become desensitised to its overuse.Jákl utilises a grey and brown muddy colour palette and shoots a couple of neat underwater brawls.But did he really need to use a CGI lion for one particular scene?
